Welcome to our Mission, our Passion, our Love. We are glad you are here. Mission: Salt + Light; we are a group of people located in the Portland, Oregon area who have a calling to help, give, love and support the community and people around us. We have been called to help those close to us, close to those around us, and those who we interact with knowingly or unknowingly each and every day.

Our group meets regularly, where we come together to help those families, individuals, children, groups that are in need of time, support, prayers, resources and love. We hope that as a group, living in community, that we can live up to the expectations of being the Salt and the Light not only in this great city but also across the rest of the State, Country and World. Please
contact us if you would like to know more on how to get involved, serve, support or make us aware of a need that we may be able to support!

These are some links to pages that inspire us in multiple ways. Some inspire us to continue to improve as people, some inspired and inspire Mission: Salt + Light, and others just make us want to do more!

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” --Matthew 5:13-16

Ryan & Sara Hoppes
Sara and I have been married since 2006 and have two amazing sons. We both grew up in Oregon and all of our close family lives between Albany and Clackamas.  We live, work and play in the Beaverton area and love it here!

We were raised with the desire to help one another, but found supporting the occasional fundraiser and tithing at church didn't really put us in touch with people really needing help. Listening to a Sunday service in 2011, we realized another component that was missing. We felt disconnected not only from the people we were helping but we were also disconnected from our friends and family.  We felt like doing things as a group could be more lasting, more impactful and able to reach deeper into local needs.  That is why we started
Mission: Salt+Light.  As we are joined by those we know around us, we all bring unique abilities, passions and perspectives to the table.  Some of us have time, energy and ideas while others have funding and resources.  Depending on the project, different friends step in with different pieces of the solution.  None of us have all of the answer, but all of us have a piece of it that just needs to be knit together.

With Mission: Salt + Light we want to help people in the Beaverton area and build relationships that last far beyond the current crisis. We want the connection to grow and bring more people into our community! We look forward to working with each and every one of you!

Josh & Melissa Hancock
Josh and I met as freshman in 1996 while attending Western Oregon University. Little did we know that our friendship would turn into a marriage of ten years and counting. We have been blessed with two very spirited girls Kadence, our oldest, and Kennedy. Josh was born in California, but grew up in Grants Pass, while I was born and raised in Hillsboro. We now reside in Beaverton and work within the community.
We feel we have been given an opportunity to be role models for our children and community through Mission: Salt + Light. Like Sara and Ryan we were at the same church service and walked away with questions of what can we do to help our community and get others involved. We love that Mission: Salt + Light isn’t some faceless organization asking for donations, but rather one that strives to support our community by providing volunteers with opportunities to help those in need. There is the saying it takes a village to raise a child, and that is what we are living. Our children are influenced on a daily basis by our family and friends and if they can help teach our children how to give to others then we know we have done our job as parents. We look forward to working with you all to help build a community we can be proud of!
